Creator.

And:

Childhood incest survivor.

And Latter-day Saint mom.

Christ put a sword in my hand.

Survivor was never my  final title.

The journey to Creator began.

Meet Crystal Redford

Crystal Redford is the author of Starling Warrior, an inspirational nonfiction book about healing from sexual abuse. She lives in Mead, Washington with her husband and two sons. Her pets are the wild backyard birds and squirrels.

Who is the Starling Warrior?

Defender of the flightless fledgling starling, cat-caught and dying.

I became the Starling Warrior the day I decided not just to remember my story but to scream, yell, and shout it.

I used to think I was the only Latter-day Saint who had ever been sexually abused. I looked for someone who understood, someone who could walk me through this pain. In 2021, I didn't find them.

Where are the books for Latter-day Saints healing from sexual abuse?

I couldn't find them.

Alright, I said. Then

I'll do it.

Four years of writing with my eyes closed, the Savior's healing happening real-time on the page.

Starling Warrior was born.

Could The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints become a place where survivors feel

safe to speak up,

feel heard, and receive healing?

Yes, it can.
