Meet Crystal Redford

Crystal Redford is the author of Starling Warrior, an inspirational nonfiction book about healing from sexual abuse. She lives in Mead, Washington with her husband and two sons. Her front room is her craft room, her garage is her woodshop, and her front yard is her garden. Her pets are the wild backyard birds and squirrels.

Crystal Redford, the Starling Warrior, holds her own creation in her hands: a clay starling made from gold candy wrappers and a lightbulb

Why I wrote   Starling Warrior

I didn't remember I'd been sexually abused.

Not until I gave birth to my first son.

It took years for the memories to come in.

They weren't facts at first, but depression. Anxiety.

Dishes left undone.

The first time I realized the truth, my first thought was:

Sexual abuse doesn't happen

to Latter-day Saints

And certainly not by their fathers.

Where are the books for Latter-day Saints healing from sexual abuse?

In 2020, living in Utah,

I couldn't find them.

Alright, I said. Then

I'll do it.

Four years of writing with my eyes closed,

the Savior's healing happening real-time on the page,

Creator.

Sword of Truth

And:

Childhood incest survivor.

Latter-day Saint mom.

Christ put a sword in my hand.

Survivor was never my  final title.

The journey to Creator began.

Could The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints become a place where survivors feel

safe to speak up,

feel heard, and receive healing?

Yes, it can.
